This tour is packed with stories of bravery and courage and goes to ares that many tourists do not find. You visit  Pointe du Hoc, for a detailed look at the cliff-assault by the Rangers, the sombrely impressive German Cemetery at La Cambe and the beautiful Colleville American Cemetery . Also on the tour is the museum at Saint Laurent sur Mer. Day one

Day 2 in greater detail
Omaha Beach - East
- Fox Green in Colleville is where the 1st infantry Division came ashore. Here we see the preserved German trenches and bunkers and the memorial to the Fighting First , and hear personal stories of both US and German survivors . Our choice of stops and stories varies as there are a wealth of gut-wrenching and moving accounts to select from - stories of LSTs, Navy UDT teams , the Sherman DD tanks , the Engineers and Medics. The panoramic views of Omaha from here are stunning.

Colleville U.S. Cemetery - Acres of beautifully kept grounds and the resting place of 9387 Americans. An unforgettable experience. As seen in Saving Private Ryan.

Easy Red Beach - Here is where Robert Capa took his famous D-Day photos. We may stop between Exits or near the Ruquet valley at Exit EI, cleared by Bangalore Torpedoes , Naval gun fire and the actions of brave GIs. At some point in the day the tour will also include a walk on the sands.

Lunch - snacks and drinks are usually bought from the
D-Day house a café at Les Moulins Exit D3.

Omaha Beach Museum - With its themed displays, Sherman tank and LCVP Landing Craft. Personal items from veterans and good information about the German occupation are a feature of this museum. Also a good stop for souvenirs and books about Omaha, and the battles inland.

Omaha Beach - West - We stop near Vierville and Exit D1 , where the 29th Division suffered so badly. Here is where the Bedford Boys landed, and Dog Green is where Saving Private Ryan is set. Again we will relate personal stories of both the landings and the breakthrough up the bluffs. If you want to truly understand what Bloody Omaha was all about, this is the tour for you. The whole day allows for a detailed look at the beach where history was written .

Pointe du Hoc - The infamous German gun position that threatened the Allied ships off Utah and Omaha . Attacked by the elite U.S. Rangers , who had to scale the cliffs to get there. The moon like bomb craters and ruined fortifications make here a favourite stop of many of our clients.

Frank Peregory’s MOH - See the field that he ran up on and the Machine-gun nest he took out. Few Medals of Honor were awarded in Normandy and Peregory’s bravery is a shining example to the National Guard and 29th Division

La Cambe German Cemetery - The largest military cemetery in Normandy, immaculate grounds with nearly 22000 graves and a superb visitors centre .

The Hedgerows - We make a huge effort to explain the nature of the fighting through the Bocage of Normandy . You will understand how the natural banks of earth and bushes hindered the Allied advance and look at the solutions the American soldiers employed to push inland to St Lô.

Other stops - Depending on the time of year, how many people in the group, the weather etc. There are other stops we can include if we have spare time. It’s the little “extra stops ”, that make a Battlebus Tour truly special. Day one

We were truly impressed with the small size groups and the knowledge and skill in presentation of the guides.

We were very impressed with the guides’ thoroughness, passion, and eagerness to share as much information as they could cram into 9 hours. In addition to the actual sites, the supplemental maps and pictures and individual veteran accounts really helped us visualize the events of D-Day.

Two days was the way to go, we had been on a short tour with another operator a year before and came away feeling we had missed more places than we had seen. But with Battlebus we had a great time, we saw places we could never have found on our own, and the stories, well, words fail me. That Generation truly was the GREATEST.

He is the best guide we have ever had! I appreciate your company's philosophy and marvellous attention to detail. The anecdotes and the itinerary for the two days were exceptional.

We reserve the right to alter tour itineraries as necessary and without prior notice. This can be because of traffic delays, museum closures or bad weather etc

Please note that 12 years is the minimum age to take this tour

There is a moderate amount of walking and a considerable amount of standing on this tour
